Sustainable Tourism Project on Hospitality of Guests
Step inside Charaka's recent hospitality workshop—the first milestone in the Gandhi Pravasa project—equipping local staff to deliver high-quality, sustainable tourism experiences while preserving local resources.

The first step towards Gandhi Pravasa - a sustainable tourism project under the Department of Tourism, Govt. of Karnataka was to orient the staff towards the requirements of this project.
A workshop was conducted with the objective of systematically developing the tourism activities at Charaka, providing quality hospitality and services to tourists and creating a system conducive to sustainable tourism by efficiently utilizing local resources. A total of 18 people from Charaka participated in the workshop.
Mr. Chetan Kumar, Senior Receptionist of Government Youth Hostel, Mysore participated as a resource person. He provided training on the topics of management of the guesthouse and offering good hospitality to tourists. He covered topics such as welcoming guests respectfully, responding promptly to their needs, cleanliness of rooms and toilets, maintenance of the dining area and surrounding environment, safety and security, advance booking and record keeping.

Along with this, the importance of economical use of water, electricity and other resources, financial discipline, transparent business, team coordination and developing a positive image of the organization by providing a good experience to tourists was explained.
Charaka staff who participated in the training:
Satyabhama, Chetana, Ramya, Lata, Pavithra, Sumitra, Sushila, Huchesh, Sakamma, Seetha, Indukumar, Padmashree, Prema, Manjula, Lata, Mahalakshmi, Prema, Suresh.
Out of these, two members were identified for continuous maintenance and they underwent further training.
